Urban permaculture garden in Irene

In 2009 I started a new permaculture food garden in Irene Farm Villages in a space of 4 x 13 metres. It was just a patch of lawn which had to be trenched and dug up because of all the building rumble and dolomite in the ground. Then we had to put up fencing so that the dogs don’t do their business on the vegetables.

Take a look on our Facebook page at how the garden has progressed. It now contains a thriving granadilla vine, 3 avocado trees, a fig tree, a lemon tree, gooseberry bushes, a verbena bush, comfry, artemisia, thyme, mint, garlic chives, tomatoes, spinach, radicchi, green pepper, rocket, sorrel, artichokes, spring onions, squash and strawberry popcorn.
